COMMUNITY AND AGENCY INTERACTION
The Bronx Parents Housing Network serves community districts located throughout the Bronx and Harlem. These communities are among the neediest in the United States. These community districts encompass Soundview, Parkchester, University Avenue, Castle Hill, Morrisania, Mott Haven, Hunts Point and Harlem. The scope of service provided in these communities range from crisis management to advocacy. The homeless population in these communities has benefited the most. BPHN has been operating emergency housing referral services to the HIV, Mentally Ill and Substance Abuse populations. BPHN operate a drop-in crisis center at 578 E.166th Street. The hours of operation are from 9: am to 9: pm Monday to Friday.
BPHN has operated on a shoe string budget for the past seven years. The agency has provided most of the much needed services to the community free of cost. Trained social service practitioners have donated their time and their skills to address and respond to community needs. Some of the local politicians have recognized the work of our agency and have decided to support us financially. In addition we have begun to partner with other established non-profit social service agencies in the community in responding to requests for proposals for government funding.
All the best practice models in community empowerment indicate that investing in graduates of the program pays dividends in the end. The BPHN believes this to be true. The leadership of the organization includes graduates of programs that provide similar services to ours. These individuals are products of the communities that we now serve and have an unwavering loyalty to investing time effort, money and services to help the communities repair themselves. BPHN is committed to developing the necessary leadership skills of its clients who would then become the future leaders in the community.
